Are PROCAM data applicable to
Swiss people ? |

no ! |

|
| Main observations |
The Augsburg Population
(near Munich) has a
higher absolute risk for cardiovascular events than the
Swiss French Paradox Population. |
|
| Some problems |
The PROCAM database is
restricted to male subjects. Risk prediction is valid for the population,
where it was studied (and not for southern France, middle Italy, Madrid or
Olten). |
PROCAMData |
| Question |
Is it appropriate to use the PROCAM risk function for Swiss men ?
|
|
| Further remarks |
We have performed a
small but population based study in Switzerland, where we looked at the
presence of atherosclerosis in both men and women. Co-workers are Edouard
Battegay and Paolo Raggi. We applied a specific risk algorithm to find out,
what might be the performance of AGLA, NCEP III, and PROCAM in Switzerland.
From our observations we can expect, that PROCAM risk estimates overestimate
risk in Swiss German men and should not applied to a Swiss population. The PROCAM
cookbook has published conversion factors for populations living outside of
Augsburg. For men and women living in the German part of Switzerland, no
recommendations could be made because of lack of data, especially
Monica-cohorts. |
